Dr. Masataka Nakahara

Masataka Nakahara is an acoustician specializing in the acoustic design of recording and mixing studios, research and development in room acoustics, and engineering education. After studying acoustics at the Kyushu Institute of Design, now part of Kyushu University, he joined SONA Corporation in 1995. Over the past 30 years, he has designed numerous professional studios and has earned particular recognition for designing multichannel and immersive audio facilities. Several of these projects have been presented at AES Conventions.

He received his Ph.D. from Kyushu University in 2005 and subsequently began research and development at ONFUTURE Ltd. His recent research focuses on virtual recording techniques that enable arbitrary microphone arrays to be synthesized from a single acoustic measurement in a real performance space. The results of this research have been presented at numerous AES Conventions and Conferences over the past decade and have been incorporated into a professional reverb plugin. He has also taught acoustics and immersive audio technologies at universities and technical colleges for more than two decades.

He currently serves as Vice President for the Asia-Pacific Region of the Audio Engineering Society (AES), where he promotes technical exchange and collaboration among researchers, educators, and industry professionals throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
