Member of the AES Automotive Audio Technical Committee
The founder and President of Listen, Inc.
Steve Temme is founder and President of Listen, Inc., manufacturer of the SoundCheck audio test system. Listen celebrates its 30th anniversary next year.
Since founding Listen in 1995, Steve has invested heavily in R&D to remain on the cutting edge of research into audio measurement. Many of today’s commonly used audio measurement techniques such as stepped sine wave analysis, higher order harmonic distortion, Log TSR analysis, and open loop testing were pioneered by Listen in the 1990s and 2000s. In more recent years, Listen has broken new ground in perceptual measurements with its second generation of Perceptual Rub & Buzz and Transient Distortion techniques which offer unmatched reliability and correlation with human hearing. Listen’s product development focus in recent years also include the algorithms, interfaces and test methods to measure today’s many and varied wireless and cloud-communicating devices.
Prior to founding Listen, Steve worked for many years as an acoustic test and measurement applications engineer at Brüel & Kjær, and also as a loudspeaker design engineer at Apogee Acoustics. He holds a BSME from Tufts University, has authored numerous papers on acoustic testing, and has lectured extensively throughout the world. As a member of the AES Technical Committee on Automotive Audio since 2020, he made significant technical contributions to the white paper he is discussing at this year’s event.
